In Latvia, a plan to reduce the fishing fleet continues, in which the owners of the vessels are offered money for a final cessation of fishing and fishermen are offered compensation for loss of work. Its purpose is to adjust the capacity of the Latvian fishing fleet to the available fish resources. In the next round of the program, two ship recycling projects and seven requests from fishermen for compensation were received - a total of 1.6 million euros will be required. Program participants must complete the implementation of the approved projects no later than July 30, 2027. The program is financed with the support of the European Maritime, Fisheries and Aquaculture Fund.
