The Law Center of the Central State wants to give the right to block websites. The Ministry of Health sent a package of amendments to the Information Society Services Law to the CM Committee for National Economy, Agriculture, Environmental and Regional Policy. The main innovation of the amendments is the inclusion of the State Language Center (CSL) in the list of departments that have the right to restrict access to Internet resources and online interfaces. Thus, the language test will receive the same leverage in the network that the state police, the income tax, the center for the protection of consumer rights and the health inspection already have. At the same time, it is proposed to exclude the Bureau for the Prevention and Combating of Corruption (CANV) from this list - the authors of the initiative point out that the Anti-Corruption Agency already has enough existing tools to control illegal information. According to the amendments, access to the websites will be blocked in order to protect the state's language, to suppress violations in the processing of citizens' personal data, as well as to combat illegal or prohibited advertising. The wording "serious risk" in the wording of the law will be replaced by the term "substantial risk", as this term is more widely used in the regulations and judicial practice of Latvia.
