The members of the Knesset want a unified railway network with cheap tickets. At the same time, highways should connect not only the capitals of the EU countries, but also the most important transportation hubs, including cities in remote and less developed areas. It is also planned to develop communication with the main neighboring countries. Where the construction of direct express lines is impossible or practical, it is proposed to provide convenient transfers to existing axes. According to the European Parliament, this approach will help reduce differences in transport accessibility between regions and improve connections with peripheral regions. It is proposed to pay special attention to missing train connections, cross-border axes and abandoned and unserviced sections of the rail network. Special attention is given to the cost of travel in the recommendations. The European Parliament is calling on EU countries and train operators to take action to make high-speed rail travel more accessible to a wider range of passengers. Possible solutions include more favorable fares, discounted tickets and special tickets. The European Parliament also calls for the maximum utilization of existing and future European funds for the construction and modernization of highways. Deputies consider it necessary to provide separate and sufficient funding for these projects in the long-term EU budget for the years 2028–2034.
