The first 2ES9 electric locomotive was assembled at NEVZ The Novocherkassk Electric Locomotive Plant completed the assembly and painting of the first experimental 2ES9 freight electric locomotive with asynchronous traction drive. The locomotive is currently undergoing operational tests: experts are testing electrical and pneumatic systems, control and operation in the test ring. The two-part, 12-axle electric locomotive with a power of 12,600 kW is designed to move trains weighing up to 7,100 tons on the BAM and Trans-Siberian railway lines. The maximum speed is 120 km/h, and the declared range before major repairs reaches 4 million km. 2ES9 is equipped with a Russian control system with redundancy of main components, supports virtual automatic coupling and distributed braking. Skid and skid protection systems, as well as automatic control of the traction motors, are designed to increase the reliability and energy efficiency of the locomotive.
