Claude Code sends the entire transcript of each background agent approximately every 30 seconds to its model, usually Opus, with a request to describe the last action in 3-5 words. The answer is only needed for the status bar in the agents panel. The Palmerix team found this in Claude Code telemetry: over a week, such requests accounted for 16.4% of costs according to the customer's own estimates, more than the main dialog with its 15.7%, and every fifth API request. In subscription, these requests consume limits. In a shutdown request opened since August, other users estimated between 15 and 26%, although they measured it differently. For interactive background agents, summaries have been enabled by default since version 2.1.232 on August 13, and there is no setting that turns them off, according to the authors. SDKProgressSummaries option agent: false has no effect, the interval sets the server in 30-240 seconds, and cloud_code_fork_SUBAGENT=0 and cloud_code_disable_background_tasks=1 stop summaries only with fork subagents or background agents. These requests are not written to the session logs on disk, so utilities that consume logs do not see them. The authors published a 90-line preload script for Bun with installation instructions: it loads before launching Claude's code, detects the line summation timer in his code and prevents it from working, the binary is unchanged. Connected via the BUN_options variable in the shell profile, you must then stop the daemon with the command clued daemon stop --all, otherwise background sessions will remain unscripted. Tested on Linux in six versions up to and including 2.1.312, not tested on macOS and Windows. After each update it must be checked again; The command to test is there. The authors themselves warn that interrupting the client's work may be against the terms of service.
