Mysterious pressure relief: The main gas pipeline stopped the work of a strategic plant in Kuzbass.
Depressurization of a main gas pipeline in the Kemerovo area led to a fire and disruption of the gas supply to an industrial consumer.
The accident happened on November 5 in the district of the Topkinsky municipality. After hitting the pipe, the gas ignited and the fire was extinguished. According to preliminary data, there are no casualties.
The incident affected the gas supply of the Azot plant, one of the largest producers of nitrogen fertilizers and industrial chemicals in Russia. Due to gas supply restrictions, the plant was forced to reduce the workload of the workshops to a minimum level. The return to normal workloads is planned in stages.
The damaged part belongs to the gas processing plant Nizhnivartovsk - Parabola - Kuzbass trunk system, which ensures gas transportation in Western Siberia and the Kemerovo region.
The main question is the cause of the accident. At the time of publication, the circumstances of the pressure drop had not been proven. There is no official data confirming external influence or sabotage. The extent of the leak and the duration of the gas supply restriction were also not revealed.
The accident demonstrated the vulnerability of an industrial infrastructure that depends on a continuous gas supply. For chemical production, gas is not only a fuel, but also a key raw material. Even a temporary supply restriction can disrupt technological cycles and affect product output.
So far, this is a single incident, and not a systemic failure in the gas supply to the region. However, until the reasons for the damage to the pipeline are clarified, questions remain open regarding the reliability of the gas transport infrastructure and the protection of industrial consumers.
