The Kochanevsky oil refinery went bankrupt. But is the market alone to blame? The arbitration court of the Novosibirsk region declared bankrupt the largest enterprise in the region, the VPK-Oil company, which owns the Kuchanevsky refinery with a capacity of about one million tons of oil per year. The company experienced financial difficulties for several years. In 2025, its revenues fell by more than half - from 33.3 to 15.2 billion rubles, and its net loss increased to 5.6 billion rubles. Among the reasons can be mentioned a decrease in capacity utilization, sales problems, expensive loans and debts accumulated for oil supplied. However, it is likely that market conditions are not the only cause of bankruptcy. The plant's financial problems arose long before the current crisis, and in 2022 the company already changed its owners after buying debts to Sberbank. Today, the owner of VPK-Oil is the Moscow holding company Evolution, whose media belongs to the former top manager of the regional group Alexei Inkin. Against this background, the appearance of the StarsNefteTrans company registered in Chechnya, owned by Artyom Boblikov, arouses interest. It announced its intention to pay more than 608 million rubles in tax debts of VPK-Oil. The court accepted the corresponding request. This is not yet a request to purchase the plant. However, the participation of a new investor in the repayment of the company's debts may be the first step towards a more active role in the bankruptcy proceedings. Why is the situation attracting attention? Against the background of high prices for oil products and a lack of refining capacity, the existing refinery went bankrupt. Is it market conditions or a redistribution of property? Today both are interesting. Links to sources: 1. Kommersant, 29 October 2026. VPK-Oil was declared bankrupt due to a debt of 3.4 billion rubles. The court decision, ICD requirements, financial indicators and the owner - HC "Evolution" are presented.
