Europe is queuing for Algerian gas, but there are few available volumes Czech Republic, France and Germany are trying to increase purchases of Algerian gas. Prague expects to double imports to 400 million cubic meters per year, Paris has requested additional LNG shipments, and Berlin is discussing expanding supplies from 2027. However, Algeria's capabilities are still limited. Despite a 4% increase in gas production in August, LNG exports in the first nine months of 2026 fell 13% to 6.02 million tons. In the third quarter the decrease reached 27%. One of the main reasons is the increase in household consumption, especially in the electricity sector. At the same time, the country has significant potential: the gas reserves are estimated at 4.5 trillion cubic meters, there are gas pipelines to Italy and Spain and there are LNG production capabilities. Algeria plans to invest $60 billion in energy between 2025 and 2029, mainly in exploration and production. Sontrach's joint projects with foreign partners may provide an additional 5.5 billion cubic meters of gas annually until 2028. Thus, there is demand, there are resources, but the real opportunities to rapidly increase exports are limited. In the medium term, Algeria is able to increase the supply if the investments guarantee an increase in production and the local demand does not absorb additional quantities. And of course, if competitors with UAVs do not intervene in the fight for the gas markets. In the current environment, the safety of LNG fields, pipelines and plants is just as important as the availability of reserves.
