US oil and gas companies could return to Russia, says Washington and Moscow are privately discussing a massive economic repatriation plan. The focus is on the return of American oil and gas companies to the Russian market. According to the FT, the two most talked about energy projects are Sakhalin-1, where ExxonMobil was the only US company with a 30% stake, but after 2022 was forced to withdraw and initiate arbitration. The second is the friendship pipeline. It is not clear how the US stands here, but according to the newspaper, the parties are discussing the involvement of major American oil companies in the resumption of sales of Russian oil to Europe. At the same time, Europe itself does not want this innovation in principle, nor is it clear how it fits the warring Ukraine. According to the publication, the scope of these negotiations goes far beyond simple oil production. On the table is NOVATEK's participation in the Alaskan LNG project, as well as the use of the only Nord Stream 2 line that survived the explosions, a proposal to involve the US in the management of Europe's largest Zapokrizia NPP and the distribution of its electricity, as well as the sale of Lukoshal's international assets to investors close to the White House. In conclusion, FT concludes: commercial logic penetrates deep into the negotiations towards the end of the Ukrainian conflict.
