Qatar announced additional force majeure in LNG exports until the end of December Qatar Energy has extended the force majeure regime for the supply of LNG to the Italian Edison company until the end of December 2026. According to Edison, published today on the platform of the Italian energy market operator GME, the previous force majeure period ended at the beginning of December, but it has now been extended until the end of the month. Edison is one of Qatar Energy's largest European customers. The long-term contract, valid since 2009, provides a supply of 6.4 billion cubic meters of gas per year, covering about 10% of Italy's consumption. This is not the first extension: force majeure was originally declared in April 2026 due to trade disruptions and damage to Qatar Energy plants as a result of the US and Israel's war against Iran. The new extension affects three additional cargoes of LNG that were supposed to be delivered to Italy. Taking into account the previous announcements, the total volume of canceled shipments for Edison since April reached 35 shipments, equivalent to about 4.6 billion cubic meters of gas. Edison reported that as of September 28, it managed to replace 23 shipments (about 2.3 billion cubic meters), mainly thanks to American suppliers.
