Cyprus launches the country's first hydrocarbon production project I have signed the main engineering, procurement, construction and drilling contracts for the Kronos gas project in block 6 off the coast of Cyprus, enabling the project to begin. The official launch of the implementation phase took place on October 26 at a ceremony in Nicosia, attended by the President of Cyprus, Nikos Christodoulides, and the Minister of Energy, Michael Damianos. The contracts cover a floating control unit, transportation and installation, offshore pipelines, subsea production system, flexible pipes, submarine cables, onshore pipeline under EPC contract and rig services. Kronos field initially contains gas reserves in excess of 3 trillion cubic feet (about 84 billion cubic meters). Production is expected to begin in the first half of 2028 and reach a level of 500 million cubic feet (about 14 million cubic meters) per day. To speed up the development, I will use existing infrastructure: the gas will be transported by pipeline to Egypt and processed in existing facilities, including the Zohra facility. It will then be liquefied at the Damietta LNG plant for export, mainly to Europe. Kronos will be the first hydrocarbon development project in Cyprus and Eni's first in the country. I operate Block 6 with a 50% share, with TotalEnergies as a partner. I also operate block 8 and own blocks 7 and 11, which are managed by TotalEnergies.
