South Korea expands its naval mission near the Strait of Hormuz The Yonhap news agency reported that the South Korean government plans to expand the range of activity of the naval unit "Chongha" from the Gulf of Aden to the southern waters of Oman and the areas adjacent to the Strait of Hormuz. According to this report, Seoul plans to send a naval patrol plane, an explosives disposal team and mine clearance equipment to this area. The implementation of this plan requires the approval of the South Korean parliament. Officials in South Korea emphasized that this mission will be non-combat and independent in nature and will not include entering the Strait of Hormuz or monitoring Iran's territorial waters. Protection of shipping security and preparation for possible participation in postwar operations are among the stated goals of this plan.
