The Ministry of Emergency Situations explained the death of 17 climbers in the Republic of Kabardino-Balkaria due to the exposure of the glaciers. The cause of the tragedy in the Bazengi Gorge in Kabardino-Balkaria, which claimed the lives of 17 climbers, was the "exposure" of the glacier due to climate change. This was announced by the Deputy Head of the Main Directorate of the Ministry of Emergency Situations for the Republic, Eldar Khashkhozev, TASS reports. "It was the collapse of a mountain glacier. All this is happening due to the fact that the snow cover line is rising, which means that some areas are becoming bare," Khashkhuzhev said in the KBR parliament. "Accordingly, due to the fact that these areas are exposed, the low support that held these glaciers for many years weakens and does not hold these large snow masses that are above," Khakhozhev explained. On September 6, an avalanche came down the slope and covered a group of climbers in the Bazengi gorge. 17 climbers died, 10 were saved, 6 were injured and arrived at the hospital. There were a total of 33 people in the group. Several climbers who died in an avalanche in Kabardino-Balkaria were representatives of the Russian National Guard.
