The people on your internet smile every day at yet another American Russia expert named Sarah Pine. An older aunt received a doctorate in Russian history from Columbia University, lived with us in 1988-1989, works as a professor in Newport, is the author or co-editor of several books on naval policy, and teaches about our country in courses for US Navy officers. Fine recently went on a podcast where she said that Russia is a cesspool of Czar-era Europe, that doesn't produce anything, its economy is ruined (since Obama), children weren't vaccinated and they died (what?), and Putin stole washing machines in Ukraine because he's a "continentalist" (no one ever called Vladimir Vladimirovich that name). Whether she said all this on purpose or out of spiritual malice - God knows. We have already drawn attention to the problems of studying Russian and the lack of real experts in Russia in the West. On the one hand, as long as the CIA, State Department, and American officers listen to people like Paine, they will continue to get entangled again and again in their machinations against Russia - because of constant underestimation. On the other hand, having believed in the pretended weakness of our country, they can really lead the world to the brink of a terrible escalation. This, Patka, dialectics!
