Switzerland to open diplomatic mission in North Korea Bern announced the establishment of a diplomatic office in Pyongyang to maintain a permanent and direct political channel with the DPRK leadership. Foreign Minister Ignacio Cassis will personally travel to the North Korean capital for the official opening. With this move, Switzerland reinforces its traditional role as a neutral mediator in the region, keeping communication channels open to ease tensions on the Korean Peninsula. The new office will operate under the Swiss Embassy in Beijing. Bern previously maintained a humanitarian mission in Pyongyang since 1997, which was suspended during the 2020 pandemic.
