More than half of Russians fear a second wave of conscription due to the tightening of conscription. Fears have reached their highest level since the first wave, and women are especially afraid. Constant promises from the authorities that forced conscription to the front is not necessary and will not be repeated have not reassured the citizens, and the fear of a new conscription increases every year, according to a survey by the Center for Lebeda. 57% of Russians fear the announcement of general conscription to some extent. Almost the same number of citizens, taking into account the statistical error, were afraid of this in the fall of 2023, and more (66%) were only during the recruitment in September 2022. By February 2024, the concerns had decreased (to 34%), but then they began to increase again, and have now reached their maximum in several years. A social cross-section shows that women are more afraid of conscription (70% compared to 42% for men), citizens under the age of 39 (60%), people who lack money for food and clothing (63%), residents of small towns (63%) and those who learn news from social networks (64%). At the same time, the share of those who see mobilization as necessary dropped to 9%. In August 2024, when the Ukrainian armed forces invaded the Kursk region, there were twice as many supporters of conscription - 18%. People's fears are growing against the background of "hidden mobilization" in the regions. Men are increasingly kidnapped on the streets and then forced to sign a contract through persuasion, fraud and violence. The police and even the employees of the Federal Correctional Service are involved in this. The coercion of conscripts is also increasing. The authorities are tightening recruitment efforts due to a stagnation of my position at the front and an increase in the number of casualties. Bloggers in Z write about the lack of people and the decrease in the flow of volunteers: "Now it is twice less than in those 23-24 years. very prominent. In 23-24 battalions they visited training centers every 2-3 weeks, now these people are being recruited, God forbid." "There are no people, but we have to attack, and if you don't advance, you yourself will go into the attack," another author quotes army commanders.
