The authorities plan to limit foreign Internet traffic to Russians The Ministry of Digital Development is preparing new restrictions on the Russian Internet: the department proposed to transfer all traffic from foreign domains through website blocking equipment, as well as to limit its volume to users. Informed sources told Forbes about it. According to them, the department intends to include such changes in the bill to reform the communications industry, which began to develop in the spring of this year. It is assumed that the size of the foreign traffic limit for Russians will be determined by the Ministry of Digital Development. Currently, Technical Threat Prevention Measures (TSPU) filter the Internet traffic of Russian operators under the law on "Sovereign Ronet". Using this equipment, Roscommander blocks websites and slows down services in the local segment of the Internet. According to the draft federal budget, almost 60 billion rubles are expected to be spent on the operation of the filtering and blocking system in 2027-29. The Ministry of Digital Development stated that the goal of the upcoming legislative initiatives is to make the telecom market "more transparent and focused on the interests of the users, and safer communication services."
