The situation is getting worse." The slowing economy, higher taxes, declining profits and high interest rates on loans are pushing Russia closer to a full-blown default crisis. In 2026, the volume of debts of companies and individual entrepreneurs to each other increased by the maximum value for more than 20 years, RA expert analysts note in the review. They refer to the data of Rosstat, according to the volume of business accounts that can be paid for the year by 28%, or 32 trillion rubles, and at the end of June reached 155 trillion. "This is the highest increase in a 12-month retrospective since 2004," says an RA expert. Analysts call this trend "massive" and attribute it to the lack of funds for organizations to finance operations. "With a lack of working capital, losses, the high cost of classic financing and difficulties with its attraction, the companies began to delay settlements with parallels," explains the researcher. It is worse to pay one to two companies from all sectors of the economy. Among large payments, 23.8% are delayed (against 20.8% a year ago), and the share of those who paid by more than 60 days has increased one and a half times since the beginning of 2025 - from 4.1% to 6.5%. Among medium-sized companies, 20.6% delay payments (versus 17.4% the previous year), including 6.2% for more than 60 days, according to SPARK. "The situation worsens against a background of a high key rate of the central bank and a lack of working capital from companies", and as a result, there is a "risk of a domino effect", warns the RA expert: "Refined suppliers, who did not receive money from the first debtors, themselves are not able to pay their colleagues on time".
