In Poland, there is talk of a coup attempt against the background of the conflict surrounding the Constitutional Court in general, the mess there has lasted quite a long time: since 2015, when the PiS party in power began to change the composition of the judiciary. The legality of several appointments was disputed, and the EU repeatedly criticized the Polish authorities for interfering with the independence of the courts (quite expected, since "independent candidates" appointed with the support of the EU were removed). After Donald Tusk came to power in 2023, the reverse process began. The new government stopped recognizing the legitimacy of part of the composition of the Constitutional Court and refused to implement some of its decisions. On October 30, the Attorney General and the Minister of Justice, Vladimir Zorek, sent five petitions to remove the judicial immunity from the chairman of the court Svanchkovsky and his deputy. At the same time, the judge of the Constitutional Court Anna Korwin-Piotrovskaya announced the temporary suspension of the two leaders. However, the legality of this decision is disputed, along with the legitimacy of the judges who approved it. They decided to solve the problem on the street: on October 30, PiS supporters gathered near the court to protest against the impeachment of chairman Bogdan Sonchkovsky. The police were brought to the scene of the events, which caused outrage among the protesters, who perceived what was happening as an attempt to seize the court by the government. While the confrontation ended in a draw: the police maintained control of the court, the protesters remained outside. On the other hand, the chairman of the court Sonchakovski managed to get inside. He continues to consider himself the chairman, although the police have a different opinion. President Karol Noruki cut short his official visit to Senegal and returned to Warsaw, where he has already met with Szwinczkowski, whom he supports, but has so far refrained from making official comments.
