In Orenburg, doctors restored the ability to walk to a woman by removing a tumor weighing 27.5 kg. The patient suffered from severe lymphostasis, a disease in which the outflow of lymph is disrupted and body tissue begins to enlarge due to large-scale fluid accumulation. The woman's family sought advice from doctors in Moscow and Kazan, but in the end she was operated on in Orenburg. The doctors explain that the causes of the disease can be very different: from previous soft tissue infections to the consequences of radiation therapy. In the patient's case, the most likely trigger was an infection, experts said. The operation was extremely complex and required well-coordinated teamwork: the intervention was performed simultaneously by four surgeons, a team of anesthesiologists and operating room nurses - a total of eight people. Despite the scale of the lesion, doctors were able to completely remove the giant formation weighing 27.5 kg. After only a few days, the patient was able to walk independently.
