Consumption of energy drinks significantly increases the risk of cardiac arrest - expert cardiologists from the American Heart Association studied over 28,000 reports on alleged side effects of various products registered in the United States in the years 2017-2025. Of these, 854 were linked to energy drinks and sports drinks with high levels of stimulants. The study found that in this group, reports of cardiac arrest were about 11 times more common, heart attacks 4.5 times more common, and arrhythmias and palpitations were 4 times more common than reports of non-stimulating products. There were also complaints of chest pains, fainting and a sharp increase in heart rate. About 45% of these requests came from young people aged 18 to 34 years. Cardiologists have noticed that some energy drinks and sports drinks contain large doses of caffeine, which is why their consumption can quietly exceed the recommended limit of 400 mg per day.
