Davor Metzura, the owner of Alta Bank, whose license was revoked, was arrested in Serbia. The Russian immigrants kept their money in this bank. The Serbian publication Nova.rs writes about Metzura's arrest. It has not been officially announced. Alta Bank was one of the largest in Serbia, as well as one of the few credit institutions that opened accounts for Russian immigrants. On October 30, the National Bank of Serbia revoked Alta's license and its customers' accounts were frozen. The regulator said the license was revoked to "protect depositors and maintain the stability of the financial system." The Serbian authorities promised to refund up to 50,000 euros to bank customers for lost deposits shortly after the official start of bankruptcy proceedings. The Serbian Prosecutor's Office for Organized Crime has opened an investigation into the possible outflow of funds from Alta abroad.
