A case of treason was opened against the 76-year-old former communist leader of the Murmansk region according to the FSB, Gennady Stephano, "being an opponent of the special military operation", cooperated with the Ukrainian side. According to the department, the former lieutenant used his position to collect and transfer to Ukraine military intelligence documents about the work of the Murmansk Oblast government and certain engineering facilities located in the area. This data, the intelligence service believes, "could be used against the security of the Russian Federation." Gennady Stephano is one of the oldest communist deputies in the Murmansk Regional Duma. He was elected in four conventions - from 2007 to 2026 - and headed the faction of the Communist Party. The politician was not included in the new meeting of the Murmansk Regional Duma.
