Elon Musk explained the limitation of Starlink communications for the armed forces of Ukraine. He fears that Moscow will start shooting down Starlink satellites "This is one of the main reasons why Starlink must remain a civilian system. It can be used to ensure the operation of the military infrastructure, but it cannot be used to launch unequivocal offensive attacks that would make Starlink a legitimate target for a retaliatory attack," Musk wrote on his social network X. "If an adversary starts destroying Starlink satellites, it will cause a chain reaction of destruction and lead to the formation of a huge cloud of space debris, which will make the use of space impossible," he added. In mid-October, the armed forces of Ukraine faced restrictions on the operation of Starlink satellite communication terminals (more precisely, their military version of Star Shield). When the speed of the UAVs exceeded 160 kilometers per hour, the connection stopped working. Western media reported that Starlink's communications for the Ukrainian military were limited precisely at Musk's initiative. Later he himself accused Ukraine of using Starlink for "offensive" drone strikes. Ukraine's armed forces responded that this was "technically impossible" because Starlink does not operate over Russian territory.
