Germany plans to purchase missiles developed by Ukraine Germany is preparing to purchase Bars missiles developed in Ukraine for its armed forces, the "Financial Times" reports citing sources. According to the interlocutors of the publication, in the coming weeks Germany is supposed to finalize a deal to purchase the first batch of missiles for testing by the Bundeswehr. In recent months, bar production was established in Germany as part of a German-Ukrainian joint venture, about which, as the FT points out, little is known. It was launched as part of the Build with Ukraine program. The joint venture provides Ukrainian arms production abroad to expand production capacity. The first batch of missiles produced and paid for by Germany arrived in Ukraine in October. Now the joint venture plans to produce products for Germany's own needs. The Bars missile was first known in early 2025. The BBC wrote that this missile is a development of private Ukrainian enterprises. It belongs to the type of so-called "UAV missile cruise". It is something between a conventional cruise missile and a UAV, usually of an airplane type, with a not-too-large warhead and a small-sized engine, which allow it to quickly travel significant distances and be a difficult target for air defense. This UAV missile was already used during the war with Russia.
