To our international subscribers: Flavio Bolsonaro, the "Trump government in exile," personally defended a military police officer accused of killing Ana Clara Gomes Machado, a five-year-old girl who was shot with an assault rifle while she was playing outside her home with her two-year-old brother in Rio de Nitiro, in February 2011. According to prosecutors, police officer Bruno Dias Delaroli fired his rifle at a residential area despite residents shouting warnings that civilians were present. Prosecutors found no evidence of a previous attack on the officers, contradicting the defense's account of a shootout. Flavio provided free legal representation and signed a 2024 appeal seeking to prevent the officer from facing a civil jury. Brazil's Supreme Court rejected the appeal, and the officer has yet to stand trial. During the presidential debates, Bolsonaro defended the officer and expressed confidence in his innocence. Ana Claras' mother, Cristian Gomes de Silva, disputed his account, stating that there was no gunfight and that she witnessed her daughters' deaths. More than five years later, the case remains unsolved, with the accused officer awaiting trial.
