Neurosurgeon sentenced to restriction of freedom for the death of a patient during a scheduled surgery. The court in Barakenglesk sentenced 28‑year‑old neurosurgeon Vladislav Ibanov at the regional clinical hospital. In May 2025 he operated on a patient with a disc herniation. During the operation the doctor made a mistake, which caused the woman to die from massive blood loss and hemorrhagic shock. As reported in the media, Ibanov used excessive force and entered the retroperitoneal space with a medical device, damaging the patient’s vein and artery. As a result, the patient died on the operating table. Ibanov did not plead guilty. However, the court concluded that there is a direct link between the doctor’s error and the patient’s death. Ibanov did not understand that his actions would lead to death, although given his specialization, skills, length of service and experience, he should have foreseen and prevented it. The doctor was sentenced to two years of restriction of freedom. In addition, he was banned from professional activity for one year.
