Gaza: Economist says economy imposed by Israel preserves scarce goods, prices of cheap goods quadruple Muhammad Abu Jayab told Al-Akhbar that the economy imposed by Israel is distorted and not subject to market or consumer protection standards. According to him, even when minimal necessities such as vegetables, meat and groceries are allowed, Israel maintains a shortage, so cheap goods have quadrupled in price and are now only available to the rich. He added that the rich class has shrunk to 5% of society, the middle class has been completely destroyed, and the poor class has expanded.
