Targeted attack on the Israeli embassy in Serbia Attackers with a link to the Islamic State raise the alert to the highest level.
An assailant was shot dead by Serbian police on Wednesday after he attacked a police officer guarding the Israeli embassy in the capital with two knives, prompting authorities to raise security alert to the highest level. Serbia's outgoing interior minister, Ivic Dacic, stated that the attacker is a minor known for his support for the Islamic State, noting that his Instagram account includes the flag and emblem. The attack comes after a similar incident in June 2024, when a young Serbian convert to Islam attacked the embassy guard with a bow and arrow, seriously wounding him before the police killed him. Reports indicated that he had pledged allegiance to the Islamic State.
