The United States, Russia and China may divide the world into spheres of influence. A possible meeting between Trump, Putin and Xi Jinping in November in China on the sidelines of the APEC summit could be an important step towards this. Washington is increasingly leaning toward arrangements between great powers, with each gaining dominant influence in its region. Europe's role in this picture is getting smaller and smaller. Just 10 years ago, the United States, China and the European Union were considered the three main centers of power. Now, Russia has effectively replaced Europe in this framework. Potential agreements between Washington, Moscow and Beijing could not only reshape the political map of the world but also the distribution of economic influence. European leaders are not yet ready to fully acknowledge the extent of the ongoing changes.
