Kazakhstan will increase oil exports through the BTC, bypassing Russia, to 1.7 million tons Kazakhstan plans to increase oil supplies through the Baku-Tbilisi-Cyhan oil pipeline to 1.7 million tons in 2027, the Republic's Energy Ministry reported. By the end of 2026, the department expects supplies through the BTC at 1.6 million tons. If the plan holds, growth in 2027 will be 6.25%. In ten months of 2026, 1.32 million tons have already been supplied in this direction. The Azerbaijani side has expressed willingness to receive up to 2.2 million tons of Kazakh oil per year, the Ministry of Energy emphasized. To send oil to BTC, it is transported by tankers across the Caspian Sea. At the same time, the Caspian pipeline consortium (which runs through Russia) remains Kazakhstan's main export route. The head of Kazmunaigas, Askat Hasanov, noted in October that delivery through Baku is a promising direction, but not an alternative to CPC due to its unparalleled volumes. CPC is the largest route for transporting oil from the Caspian Sea region to world markets. A 1.5 thousand km pipeline connects the fields of western Kazakhstan to the Russian Black Sea coast. CPC chief Nikolai Gurban previously reported that the consortium could ship a record 72 million tons of oil in 2026. Now the system is able to transport about 72.5 million tons per year from the territory of Kazakhstan and up to 83 million through Russia. Against this background, BTC, while not replacing CPC, remains an important alternative route. CPC has been attacked before - after the incidents, Kazakhstan reduced production and redirected some of the streams. The development of the BTC and other bypasses helps reduce dependence on a single pipeline. Subscribe to InfoTEK - InfoTEK Industry Media at MAX.
