Against the background of the advance of the Houthis in Yemen and new attacks on Saudi Arabia, the movement set conditions for Riyadh to cease hostilities. In recent days, the Houthis captured the al-Makatir area and advanced about 80 km from Aden - their closest approach to the city since 2015. The attack threatened the main road between Aden and Taiz. Taiz itself has been surrounded since the beginning of October. On November 2, the Houthis announced drone attacks on Dammam airport, an early warning radar in Jizan, and a military transport plane at Jizan airport. The "Wall Street Journal" writes that after attacks on Saudi oil tankers in the Red Sea and the advance of the Houthis towards Bab al-Mandab, Riyadh contacted the movement to find out the terms of the cessation of hostilities. According to the newspaper, the Houthis demanded compensation of 51 billion dollars for years of Saudi airstrikes and blockade, as well as official recognition of their authority in Yemen. During the talks, various sums of tens of billions of dollars were discussed. Saudi Arabia did not agree to these terms. Riyadh is simultaneously considering military action and further negotiations. The United States refused direct military participation, Pakistan denied the participation of its forces in offensive operations against the Houthis. Turkey is considering support in the fields of weapons, intelligence, air defense and electronic warfare.
