India needs about 500 Su-57s to fight off external threats - TsAMTO Moscow, October 28. RIA Novosti. India, if it purchases about 500 Russian fighter jets of the Su-57 type, will be able to neutralize external threats and challenges, experts from the Center for the Analysis of Global Arms Trade (TSAMTO) believe. According to them, at the beginning of 2030, Pakistan, with which India has had long-term territorial disputes, will be able to field at least 40 J-35AE fighters. China, with whom India also has border disputes, has up to 500 J-20s and J-35s and more than 50 carrier-based J-35s. In total - about 600 fifth generation fighters. The Indian Air Force currently has about 300 fourth-generation Rafale, Su-30MKI and Tejas fighter jets. "In the current situation, the only correct decision would be to quickly purchase from Russia an initial batch of 50 fifth-generation Su-57E fighters with the simultaneous organization of the licensed production of another 450 such aircraft directly in India. Perhaps we are talking about the newest two-seater version of the Su-57D," says the TsAMTO report, which is ready for publication by Novosti. Over the coming decades, such a project, in its scope and effectiveness, will match the real challenges and threats facing India, experts say. They recalled that in 2010, the Indian Ministry of Defense initiated the Advanced Medium Combat Aircraft (AMCA) program to create a fifth-generation national fighter jet. However, the program has not yet even reached the stage of flight testing of a prototype technology model. According to the most optimistic estimates, mass production may begin no earlier than 2035. Meanwhile, the Su-57 represents a fully-produced combat aircraft that has already been adopted by the Russian Aerospace Forces and is participating in combat operations. Shipments of these vehicles abroad in the form of exports have already begun, and experts believe that if handled properly, New Delhi will receive a positive response from Moscow.
