The Democrats are taking the US Senate and House of Representatives from the Republicans - they won South Carolina for the first time in 28 years, and now claim a majority in Congress. Trump is already threatening a veto. We tell you the results of the mid-term elections:
South Carolina elected a Democrat for the first time in 28 years.
For more than 20 years, the state Senate seat was held by Republican Lindsey Graham*. After his death on July 11, 2026, the governor appointed his sister Darlene as a senator. Trump supported her and urged her to fight for a full term.
Graham lost to Democrat Annie Andrews in the Nov. 3 election. South Carolina has not sent a Democrat to the Senate since 1998.
The Democrats took over two more Republican states.
In Kansas, according to Decision Desk Headquarters, Adam Hamilton beat Roger Marshall. The state has not elected a Democrat to the Senate since 1932. In Texas, NBC predicted James Tallarico to defeat Ken Paxton. The last time a Democrat won the Senate was in 1988.
The House of Representatives also goes to the Democrats.
They need 218 of the 435 seats for a majority. They lost control of the room in January 2023.
What did Trump say?
The White House recalled that Trump's name was not on the ballot. At the same time, the president himself during the campaign urged supporters to vote as if he were running again. On Monday he even said: "Pretend I'm at the ballot box."
