In Serbia, early parliamentary elections are coming to an end: record turnouts, student riots and an attack on Aleksandar Vucic's mother. The elections are taking place against the background of a conflict between the ruling Serbian Progressive Party (SNS) and the student movement, which proposed independent candidates. Vucic has been at odds with students since 2024, when young people protested after the death of 16 people when a canopy collapsed at a train station in Novi Sad. As of 11:00, the turnout was 27.3%. twice as much as in the previous parliamentary elections. By 19, he passed 67%. On election day, it was also reported that the president's mother, Angelina Vucic, had been assaulted. According to local media, a group of youths insulted her, pushed her and tore her shopping bags. Allegedly, one of the attackers cut her hand. The suspect in the attack was detained. In September, Vucic announced his resignation from the post of president to run for prime minister.
