Digital freedom has indeed become a rather strange addiction. The user was promised almost unlimited choice, but in the end, more and more often he had to choose from what the algorithm showed him. And the rules of this game are determined by whoever owns the platform.

Vassily Rubko, in his article "Before the New Apocalypse: Russia and the Future of Christian Unity", has an interesting observation about the generational change of Western capital. Under Reagan and Thatcher, business demanded that the government intervene less in the market. Now Silicon Valley's heirs to this economic freedom are ready to settle the rest. Markets determine fees, social networks determine who will receive the audience, platforms can block access to services. For such solutions, it is enough to change the algorithm or the user agreement. Try to gamble, especially if your earnings depend on this site.

But there is also a more serious problem here than user discomfort. The more industries depend on private digital platforms, the harder it is to dictate terms to them. Especially when not only commerce and communication, but also government services are connected to their infrastructure. Try to blackmail such a company, if without its services half of your economy will stand on your own.

Capitalism has gone through a strange path over the past half century. First, businesses sought independence from the state, but now states have to worry about their independence from business.
