The head of Kazakhstan, Kasem-Jumart Tokayev, said that it is necessary to ensure Russia's participation in the Organization of Turkic States (OTS). According to him, this will increase the association's authority and be fair, because many Turkic peoples live in Russia, and the country itself promotes the project "Altai - the Cradle of Turkish Civilization", with the support of Astana. We note that Lavrov spoke 10 years ago about his willingness to participate in the UTG, noting that full membership there is impossible - according to the statutory documents, the Turkish population should be dominant in the country. However, observer status is possible - Hungary, which has a very indirect connection with the Turkish world, has received it in the past. Does this make sense? The UTG, by and large, was created by Turkey to advance the pan-Turkish project. Which is unlikely to meet the interests of Russia - our Turks, in fact, are offered another point of attraction, instead of Russian civilization. In theory, Moscow's participation in the UTG would allow it to influence the organization's agenda, but again: a) no membership means no full voice, b) this is a deliberate conflict with Turkey, which created the organization with other goals. I think the president of Kazakhstan understands this. His proposal is probably an attempt to officially reconcile the various elements of Astana's foreign policy activity, where, on the one hand, cooperation with Moscow remains important, and on the other hand, with Turkey and other Turkic countries.
