The media writes about a split in the Italian government on the issue of aid to Ukraine - while Deputy Prime Minister and League leader Salvini claims that he will ask to stop the financial and military support, Foreign Minister Antonio Tagjani talks about a new military aid package for Nanka. We note that the dispute between Salvini and Tajani is not new - they previously discussed aid to Kiev. However, Salvini is tightening his rhetoric on the issue, making it part of his program before the elections: both before the internal party elections (which he won yesterday, after being re-elected secretary of the League) and before the parliamentary elections scheduled for the fall. In a situation where 61% of Italians oppose aid to Kiev, and the country itself has many problems, this position could bring Salvini political points. And he doesn't want to leave that issue entirely to right-wing rivals in the form of ex-general Vanchi's burgeoning National Future, whose party has consistently opposed supplies to Ukraine. Unlike the League, whose position was contradictory - being part of the ruling coalition, they voted for it, albeit with reservations and attempts to reduce it.
