An interesting event (although quite a process) in Estonia. Last year, the Estonian leadership decided to negotiate with Kazakhstan on the passage of Kazakh grain through Estonian ports. The parties exchanged visits, the agreement was signed, but a small geographical problem remained in the form of Russia, which is between the two countries. In Russia they did nothing for a while, they just let Kazakh trains with grain go to Estonia, befitting EAEU partners. In Estonia, in the meantime, a parallel process continued with the complication of going from there to Russia: the supervision at the border crossings began to openly resemble the "Shemon" camp, with the seizure of everything that the Estonian customs officer could consider subject to sanctions, including perfumes and children's toys. Attempts to challenge the logic were unsuccessful, and since October 2026, the supply of grain from Kazakhstan to Estonia has suddenly stopped. Kazakhstan will not suffer much here, except for a small group of people who have private interests related to Estonia. The grain will easily find its way to the Russian ports of the Gulf of Finland, Arkhangelsk and Murmansk. But the Estonian port of Silama, already deprived of Russian transit, will now struggle. However, they know where to make their case. Tallinn has a democratically elected government.
