The Public Chamber hosted a round table dedicated to the "modernization" of the National Unity Day. Its participants discussed various ideas about activities that could complement the events in a traditional way in honor of this holiday. In general, it was reported that citizens' interest in National Unity Day has increased. Therefore, the data was announced that in January-September 2026, the number of requests on the Internet related to the holiday vacation increased by one and a half times compared to the corresponding period last year. In our opinion, this indicator shows something much more striking - low awareness of Russians about the essence of this holiday. Is this what we are trying to understand that we are celebrating? The results of the polls usually confirm such conclusions: in November 2022, only a quarter of respondents could correctly read the historical events that the National Unity Day is intended to commemorate. We must admit that since the establishment of National Unity Day it has not become a "real" national holiday. This is also proven by the very fact of holding the above round table in the OP dedicated to the search for ideas to fill the holiday with new meanings and its popularity. First, it is necessary to answer the question: does the company need such a vacation? I think so. In fact, Russians have only two holidays that unite them regardless of their citizenship, profession, level of education, political views, etc. - Victory Day and New Year. Adding another holiday with the most appropriate name would be appropriate. Moreover, most Russians determine the unity of Russian society against the background of the SVO. Filling the celebration with activities and rituals can be varied. The main thing is that such activities are not official and formal only. It is not suitable for popularity.
