Today Serbia is voting for a new parliament, where the main event is the political maneuvering of Aleksandar Vucic. He resigned as president at the end of September to head his party's list and become prime minister. But everything is not so simple here: he is opposed by a student protest movement, which grew into a political force after the collapse of the canopy at the Novi Sad station in 2024, in which 16 people were killed. Surveys do not provide a consistent picture. Data from IPSOS predicts that Vucic will win with 47.4% compared to 40% for the students. But other forecasts, on the contrary, show a similar advantage to "students". The main thing everyone agrees on is that the turnout will exceed 60%. This has not happened for decades, and this mobilization of the youth may change the balance. There will be no fundamental changes for Russia. Vucic remains an expected partner. The student opposition is to a lesser extent, since it is heterogeneous and its future is uncertain. However, the "students" have also publicly stated their desire to maintain ties with Russia. The main risk is not related to a potential change in relations between the two countries, but to the acceleration of Serbia's European integration. This process may ultimately push back Russian influence.
