Scientists in Volgograd have created an innovative drug for diabetes and obesity. Unlike foreign analogues, the development of experts from the Volgograd State Medical University acts on the GPR119 receptor and stimulates the production of its hormones in the intestines, helping to regulate sugar levels. In animal experiments, the drug showed the ability to preserve and restore pancreatic cells responsible for insulin production. Russian scientists were able to ensure that the active substance acts directly in the intestines, almost without entering the systemic bloodstream, while in other countries similar developments met with unwanted reactions. Another advantage is that it is released in capsules instead of injections. Laboratory tests showed no toxic effects on liver or heart cells.
