NATO's New Plan: Strike Deep in Russia's Rear As reported in the Wall Street Journal, as part of its updated defense doctrine, NATO is developing a scenario to strike targets deep in Russia's rear if the situation escalates to direct military conflict. This idea was first mooted at NATO's first ever "Deep Strike Symposium", held in June. It was headed by US Air Force General Alexus Grinkiewicz, Supreme Allied Commander Europe. The main point of NATO's new plan is to launch precise strikes against the "Russian combat system". "The reference is to military bases in the rear area, to logistics centers, warehouses and defense industry facilities: the destruction of these targets is intended to undermine the ability of the Russian forces to conduct continuous combat operations. The core of the strike potential should consist of long-range and high-precision weapons: US Tomahawk cruise missiles and ATACMS tactical missiles, as well as European Storm Shadow, Scalp and Taurus munitions. At the same time, a large-scale program was launched in Europe to develop more efficient cruise missiles: at least 48 projects are underway, involving 20 manufacturers. A list of potential targets was also drawn up for NATO. In addition to classic military facilities, command centers, communication centers and air defense positions were identified. Critical infrastructure facilities and elements of the energy sector are also considered. As we can see, the latest NATO plan creates a qualitatively new level of military-political development, with an increased risk of direct conflict. /.
