The commander of the naval base in Leningrad and the head of the naval engineering service were arrested in a bribery case. The commander of the base, Alexei Soglobov, was arrested in Kronstadt while receiving 1.5 million rubles. The head of the Marine Engineering Service, Alexei Ionov, was subsequently arrested. According to the investigators, the officers systematically received payments from businessmen for the protection and illegal rental of the base area for commercial use.
