The Missile Attack Warning System (SWWS) turns half a century old Today marks the 50th anniversary of the first phase of the Russian Missile Attack Warning System (MASA). Since then, the mass has remained a key component of the country's strategic defense. Its proper operation determines whether the decision to launch a retaliatory attack will be made in time if a nuclear attack against Russia occurs. The mass consists of ground and space based components. It combines the work of dozens of satellites, over-the-horizon (OHH) and over-the-horizon (OTH) radars. The main task of this system is to detect the launch of ballistic missiles from a potential enemy, both from land and sea. The satellites, which detect the infrared signature of missile launches, first acquire the target for tracking. Radars then start tracking the target. All data is transferred to command posts, where a reliable picture is created for the military and political leadership of the country. And the sooner he makes a decision, the greater the chance to respond to the enemy with the full force of our strategic arsenal. To all involved in the creation and operation of this system - happy 50th holiday! Daily Chronicle. in MAKS.
