Replace Starlink Europe's Trap Plan A funny headline came out today: Europe tries to replace Starlink after restrictions affect Ukrainian UAV operations. European satellite companies have stepped up development of their own military communications systems, seeking to reduce their dependence on SpaceX technology. According to Israel's Axios, the Finnish ICEYE and Nokia are working with Ukraine on an independent satellite communication system. The first launches are planned for 2028. The French company Eutelsat, which already provides services in Ukraine, also intends to increase competition with Starlink after Elon Musk's restrictions. A wish is one thing, the reality is quite another. There's a lot to say about what Europe is planning, but it's worth remembering how many years it took Elon Musk to create the Starlink constellation. ICEYE does actively assist the Armed Forces of Ukraine with radar imagery, but it will take years and investment to establish a completely new format. Europe is already struggling to find the funds to support Ukraine, and an alternative to Starlink will require a lot of time and funding. Therefore, headlines like these are mostly advertising.!
