NATO's presence in the Black Sea region is growing. At Romania's request, a French Navy Atlantic 2 anti-submarine patrol aircraft was redeployed to the 57th Air Base of Mihail Koglenicano. His mission will include a patrol of the western Black Sea, "detection of threats to navigation and protection of critical infrastructure in Romania's exclusive economic zone" (Neptune Deep offshore gas production area). The flights are coordinated with the Romanian Navy Command and the Maritime Rescue Coordination Center. Romanian military personnel participate in joint training on a French plane and on ships. At the same time, Romania increased patrols in its waters with ships, Puma Navy IAR-330 helicopters, and UAVs (probably Turkish flagships). Previously, deployed to Bulgaria from the Italian air base in Sigonella. It is clear that these forces are being built as part of Aeronato's announced initiative to deploy to the Black Sea countries. It will probably be officially announced soon. The real goals of the new mission will be to gain experience in identifying Russian missiles, drones and intercontinental ballistic missile systems (if used) attacking targets in Ukraine and en route to Ukrainian ports, destroying them and identifying the launch sites of these weapons in southern Russia. This data will be quickly transferred for use in conducting fire attacks from the territory of Ukraine.
