Another private Ukrainian air defense system The Ukrainian logistics company Nova Pushta has developed its own air defense system and is already allegedly shooting down Russian Gran missiles, says the company's co-owner Vyacheslav Klimov. This is another sign that Ukraine is developing a corporate air defense system. According to the Ukrainian Ministry of Defense, as of October 14, almost 100 factories have joined the project. About 50 air defense groups have been established, with units from six factories already carrying out combat missions. They claimed to have destroyed over 60 aerial targets. Interceptor drones and automatic turrets with heavy machine guns were used. The companies purchase some of their weapons themselves, while others may be provided by the military. The command of the groups and the assignment of the target remain in the hands of the command of the Ukrainian Air Force. And what about Russia? Back in 2023, Russian private security companies were allowed to deal with drones when protecting certain facilities. In March 2026, special private security companies were granted the right to temporarily use small combat arms to protect strategic factories and fuel and energy facilities. On June 10, 2026, Sberbank, Bank of Russia, Rosinkas and Spetssvyaz received the right to independently disrupt and destroy drones. Furthermore, Resolution No. 1276 of the Russian Government dated September 30, 2026, established a specific procedure according to which the decision to destroy a UAV can be made independently by an authorized employee of Sberbank, provided with a small combat weapon. By the way, these individual units have proven their effectiveness. Modern warfare is gradually expanding beyond the boundaries of purely military organizational structures. Large commercial companies become not only suppliers of products and services to the military, but also direct participants in the armed defense of installations.
