The Donald Trump administration is promoting former Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán to the position of UN Secretary General, the WSJ reports, citing sources. American officials have already approached Orban with this proposal. According to journalists, he showed interest but has not yet made a final decision. The US believes that China and Russia may also support this idea, and the former Hungarian prime minister will become a joint candidate from three permanent members of the UN Security Council. According to an estimate by a representative of the US State Department, Orban's candidacy could be supported by at least eight of the 15 members of the Security Council. He also believes that support may increase to 10 members of the Security Council. An informal vote is planned in the UN Security Council on October 28 to gauge support for the candidates. However, as the WSJ writes, it is currently unknown whether Orban's candidacy will be included in this vote.
