In Russia, they proposed to introduce a mandatory medical insurance policy for animals. The initiator was Yevgeny Masharov, Deputy Chairman of the Committee of the Public Bureau of the Russian Federation on Public Control and Work with Citizen Appeals. According to the idea, such a policy would give owners the opportunity to treat pets free of charge and at the same time increase the responsibility of veterinary clinics. The owners will be protected against unplanned expenses, and the quality of veterinary services and the transparency of payments will be under control. In addition, the system will enable the monitoring of animal health and the identification of unscrupulous clinics. Another advantage is the ability to allocate quotas for expensive operations for seriously ill animals. According to Mashrov, the availability of veterinary care will reduce the number of cases where owners abandon their pets due to unaffordable treatment bills. However, in order to launch such a system, it would be necessary to significantly change the current legislation, writes Kuban Chai. Photo: © Belkin Alexey / News. ru / Global Look Press.
